Tibetan Heart Yoga is a practice where we work from the inside, and the outside. We work from the inside with our thoughts. It is designed for those who think that yoga is not for them due to stiffness, inflexibility, or other condition. The class is 70 minutes in duration and includes simple postures(asanas), breathing techniques (pranayama), and meditation. You will not only learn the basics of yoga but you will feel better! Power vinyasa hot yoga is a whole body workout which focuses on controlled breathing and continuous flow from carefully sequenced physical pose to pose. It is an amazing form of fitness that sculpts strong healthy bodies, quiets your mind and awakens your spirit. Classes are challenging and conducted in a heated room, so expect to sweat. Meditation: classes are offered in meditation both for the experienced practitioner and the beginner. Instructions, meditations tips and question and answer sessions are provided to the beginner meditator. The benefits of silent meditations and guided meditation are explored. The session on meditation consists of a total of six classes. Classes will meet for 60-70 minutes. Classes are held at Pattie’s small studio in her home in Gloucester. Each class will consist of instruction on meditation, actual meditation practice, and a question and answer period. Although not mandatory, you will be encouraged to practice meditation at home. Pat O’Brien, Ph.D is a Harvard Medical School trained immunologist and clinical research scientist who has been practicing meditation for 15 years and Hatha yoga for 12 years. Dr. Pat is a Baron Baptise Certified yoga teacher and is also a Registered Yoga Teacher (RTY). Dr. Pat teaches yoga classes and private therapeutic one-on-one yoga instruction.Dr. Pat’s clinical research efforts are ongoing and dedicated to the effects of yoga on health. Dr. Pat’s previous teaching experience in the Allied Health and Medical Sciences at the university level and thorough understanding of anatomy and physiology allow her to easily translate the alignment and biomechanics of yoga safely to her students. Over the years, Dr. Pat has studied with a variety of Iyengar and Ashtanga instructors. After being attracted to hot yoga for the therapeutic benefits, Dr. Pat practiced Bikram hot yoga for several years before immersing herself into power vinyasa hot yoga as taught by the internationally recognized Baron Baptiste. Dr Pat has studied Tantra and meditation with Yogarupa Rod Stryker. She is a student of Lama Sumati Marut in the Tibetan Buddhist Gelukpa lineage. Most recently Dr. Pat has completed teacher training in Tibetan Heart Yoga with its founders Geshe Michael Roach and Lama Christie McNally. Dr. Pat's yoga teaching emphasizes connection with the true self and healing. Although educated in traditional medicine, Dr. Pat has long been passionate in her beliefs of the spirit-mind-body connection and the use of the ancient practices of meditation and yoga. Philosophy Yoga is a timeless pragmatic science evolved over thousand of years dealing with the physical, moral, mental and spiritual well-being of man as a whole. Yoga is meant to be more than body oriented.
